A North Carolina school therapist allegedly used ChatGPT to help her poison her estranged husband's energy drinks, according to authorities.
Cheryl Harris Gates, 43, faces several charges, including attempted murder, WBTV-3 reported. Citing an arrest affidavit, the station reported that Gates used ChatGPT to "research lethal and incapacitating drug combinations that could be ingested and injected."
Although the station reported that Gates and the victim were married, the status of their relationship was unclear and they were not living together at the time Gates was charged October 10. Gates allegedly broke a window at the victim's home and also placed a tracking device on his vehicle, according to the court documents.
PEOPLE reported that Gates had worked as an occupational therapist for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The outlet reported that Gates' ChatGPT searchers occurred between July 8 and September 29.
The victim in the case provided police with "evidence of his incapacitation and a foreign controlled substance in his beverage" on July 12 and August 18, per the affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
The outlet reported that Gates attempted to "investigate lethal and incapacitating prescription drug combinations and the effects of oleander, ricin, and fox glove poisoning."
Authorities reportedly found syringes, a capsule filling kit, medical droppers, scales, and medications at Gates workspace and at her home.
