A Chicago man who executed an elderly man who was out for a walk has been sentenced to 65 years in prison Friday.
Alphonso Joyner, 27, fired more than 25 shots at 71-year-old Woom Sing Tse in December 2021. Prosecutors have provided no motive for the crime and have described the murder as a random act of violence.
"This senseless act of violence robbed Woom Sing Tse's family of a beloved and doting grandfather, and it traumatized the entire Chinatown community," Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke said.
Surveillance video of the shooting shows Tse walking on the sidewalk when a vehicle pulls up alongside him. The window rolls down and Joyner fires several shots at Tse.

Tse reacts to the shooting and staggers forward. The vehicle drives parallel to him, with more shots being fired. Finally, after Tse falls, Joyner gets out of the vehicle, approaches Tse, and fires several more shots before getting back in the car and leaving.
According to prosecutors, police caught Joyner about an hour later driving the same vehicle that was used in the shooting. The vehicle was registered to Joyner, and he had a loaded firearm, described as a ghost gun, with him. A ghost gun is an untraceable firearm, composed of random mixed parts with no serial number. The gun also had an extended magazine.
ABC-7 reported that Joyner was sentenced to 65 years in prison on Friday. The station reported that Joyner's attorneys have appealed, arguing the sentence is excessive.
