Ammo found with a rifle in a wooded area near the site of the Charlie Kirk shooting had messages with various statements on the ammo, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Kirk, 31, was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Police have launched a manhunt to find Kirk's assassin who fired one round from the roof top of a building about 100-200 yards away from where Kirk was speaking.

Kirk was the founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative organization that focused on reaching out to young people on college campuses. He also was a political ally of President Donald Trump.

On Thursday, police said they had extensive video and were able to track the suspected shooter arriving on campus and fleeing the rooftop. They also announced that they had found a rifle in a wooded area.

The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, reported that ammo found with the rifle had messages. The newspaper described the rifle as an old, bolt-action hunting rifle with .30 caliber ammunition.

The newspaper cited an internal law enforcement bulletin as well as a person familiar with the investigation as its sources. According to the report, the rifle was wrapped in a towel had a spent cartridge in the chamber. The report states that there were three unspent rounds in the magazine, each with wording on them.

A Salt Lake Tribune report previously described the rifle as bolt-action. Some bolt-action rifles do have removable magazines.
