An Ohio man who says he was tripping on mushrooms faces murder charges after police say he stabbed his roommate to death.
Akron police have charged Antoine Pixley, 21, with murder, felonious assault, and domestic violence, cleveland.com reported. According to police Pixley stabbed Dierre Williams, 22, to death around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, he also attacked his mother and stepfather.
Lt. Michael Murphy, an Akron police spokesman, told the website that Pixley said he was high on psilocybin mushrooms when he attacked Williams and his 44-year-old stepfather, adding that Pixley told officers that they looked like demons at the time.
According to the DEA, "The psychological consequences of psilocybin use include hallucinations and an inability to discern fantasy from reality. Panic reactions and a psychotic-like episode also may occur, particularly if a user ingests a high dose."
Cleveland 19 reported that Pixley had also assaulted his mother, but she was not stabbed.
The station reported that Pixley fled from his stepfather's home after the incident and was not there when officers arrived on the scene. After police officers located Pixley's vehicle, they used a K-9 unit to track him down.
According to Cleveland 19 a knife was found in Pixley's vehicle. He was arrested and taken to Summit County Jail, where he is being held on a $1 million bond.
