The Indiana judge who survived an ambush at his home on Sunday says he won't be scared off the bench and that the incident has not shaken his belief in the U.S. judicial system.
Tippecanoe County Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, were both wounded when an unknown person shot them through their front door around 2:15 p.m., Fox News reported.
The network reported that the shooter knocked on the front door of the home and said "We have your dog," before opening fire.
"I want the community to know that I have strong faith in our judicial system," Judge Meyer said in the statement, according to ABC News. "This horrific violence will not shake my belief in the importance of peacefully resolving disputes. I remain confident we have the best judicial system in the world, and I am proud to be a part of it."
The FBI has been brought in to assist local and state law enforcement in the investigation.
"I have great confidence in the Lafayette Police Department's investigation and want to thank all the agencies involved for their work," Kimberly Meyer said in a statement to ABC News.
