A Montana man who nearly decapitated his girlfriend and left her body rotting on the front porch has learned his fate.

Shane Levi Cole Roberts, 46, was sentenced to 85 years in prison on January 9 by Judge Colette Davies, reported CBS affiliate KTVQ. "I'm told that you loved this woman," Davies said as she sentenced Roberts. "But this is not love. This is abomination."

Roberts had previously pleaded guilty to murdering 52-year-old Genna Rae Moncada-LaCombe. Police found her rotting corpse on the front porch of the residence they shared wrapped in blankets, the station reported. The body was found on August 24, 2024, after neighbors began complaining of a foul odor.

"Throughout her life, she was a beacon of selflessness and compassion, always putting others before herself and defending those in need," her obituary states. "Genna's life was marked by her unwavering support and love for her family and friends. Genna's heart belonged to them, especially her sons, Nathan LaCombe and Joseph Moncada LaCombe, who were her pride and joy."

During sentencing, a jailhouse phone call was played between Roberts and his mother in which Roberts admitted to the murder, saying thatthe victim "pushed him too far," KTVQ reported. In a statement from Roberts read by his defense attorney, he apologized for the crime, adding he didn't understand why he did it.
