Nick Reiner was not medically cleared to appear in court today on charges related to the deaths of his parents - famed film director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
Nick Reiner, 32, has a long history of mental health and substance abuse issues. Reiner was taken into custody on December 14 after his parents were found Sunday afternoon in their Brentwood home, dead from apparent stab wounds.
USA TODAY reported that Reiner had not been medically cleared to appear in court Tuesday.
"Every inmate has to be medically cleared before they can be transported to court," his defense attorney, Alan Jackson, according to a video shared by TMZ. "He has not been medically cleared. It's just a procedural issue."
On Monday, the Los Angeles police department said in a statement that Nick Reiner was "responsible" for the deaths of his parents and that he was being held without bail.
Several media reports indicated that police were developing a timeline of the events that led up to the murders and Nick Reiner's subsequent arrest.
On Saturday, Nick Reiner and his parents attended a party at Conon O'Brien's home. The Daily Beast reported that the couple had a "very loud argument" with their son.
PEOPLE reported that Nick Reiner's behavior at the party disturbed other guests. "Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous," unnamed sources told PEOPLE.
Rob and Michele were found dead on Sunday around 3 p.m. Police arrested Nick at another location around 9 p.m.
