An Alabama man allegedly used a backhoe to help dispose of a murder victim and his truck.

John Collum, 57, was allegedly hired to kill 36-year-old Oscar De Santiago Soto. According to WVTM-13, Soto disappeared in June.

According to court documents, Collum put Soto and his Ford Ranger in a pit. He is alleged to have set the body and the pickup truck on fire before burying both with a backhoe.

The court documents state that two individuals assisted Collum in disposing of Soto's truck and his body, but the names of his alleged accomplices are redacted.

WVTM-13 reported that despite Collum's efforts, Soto's remains were found in July.

Tuscaloosa Thread reported that Collum has pleaded not guilty to charges related to Soto's death. He is being held in Bibb County Jail with no bond. His trial date is tentatively scheduled for September of next year.
