Georgia police are "suspicious" of a father's story that his 6-month-old son was kidnapped at gunpoint following a robbery.

Antonio Pearce, 38, called the police on October 12 at about 8:18 a.m. and told them that his son, Nnakai Pratt, was taken from his car seat carrier following an armed robbery at 100 Valley Hill Road in Riverdale. Police said that Pearce told them that he was robbed at gunpoint of his valuables and that the suspects then fled with his child.

"As the investigation into the missing child advanced, detectives became suspicious due to inconsistent testimony along with physical evidence that points to the existence of foul play," Clayton County police stated.

Fox 5 reported that Pearce is was arrested and held without bond on unrelated charges that included marijuana distribution, driving with a suspended license, and a child restraint violation.

Police began a search of nearby properties that lasted several hours and included the use of cadaver dogs. On October 13, police expanded their search to a larger area and were assisted by Spaulding Count LAWS (Land, Air, and Water Search). Police also executed several search warrants, but have not found Nnakai.

"At this moment, the facts surrounding the disappearance of baby Nnakai Pratt are highly questionable, and CCPD detectives have deemed Nnakai Pratt's father to be a suspect in his sudden disappearance," police said.

"It's devastating," neighbor Tracy Karch told Fox 5. "For such a little child, helpless, I don't think there's going to be a good end to this. Everyone knows it."

Police said that anyone with information related to the case should contact them at 770-477-3550.
