Texas police say that a butt dial is among the evidence they have that has implicated a woman in an ongoing murder case.
Joni Thomas, 62, faces a tampering with evidence charge. Police say that Thomas helped Dennis Day, 66, dispose of the body of 47-year-old flight attendant, Rana Soluri, after Day strangled her in March, The Fort-Worth Star Telegram reported.
Among the evidence cited in an arrest warrant is an voicemail that police say was the result of an accidental dial. NBC 5 reported that the voicemail includes a man and woman's voice. The warrant quotes the voicemail as saying, "Hey, help me..." "Make sure the lid's on..." and "I'm sorry I got you messed up in this."
The network reported that Thomas initially told police that she did not let Day use her truck. She later changed her story, saying that she did let him use her truck, but didn't know what was going on. She told police that when Day stopped the truck on a bridge, she thought he was going to pee and that she fell asleep and didn't wake up until they were back at his house.
Day was arrested in June. The Fort Worth-Star Telegram reported that Day told investigators he loaded her body into a black trash bin and drove about 65 miles before throwing the remains off a bridge. Soluri's body has not been found.
Day and Soluri were described as friends who had shared a residence for about a year, the newspaper reported.
