Police have identified the Las Vegas man who opened fire at a gym and was killed by police after his gun jammed.
Daniel Ortega, 34, killed one person and injured three others this last week after he entered the Las Vegas Athletic Club and started shooting at about 1:33 p.m. Ortega fired 24 rounds before his weapon malfunctioned, NBC News reported.
Police noted that Ortega entered the business carrying the rifle and walked past several individuals who were leaving the gym. Police said that Ortega went to the front desk area and began to pace.
An employee approached Ortega and the two briefly exchanged words. "The employee fled when the gunmen raised his rifle and started shooting, striking the employee. The suspect followed the employee deeper into the business and continued to fire rounds," police said at a press conference.
Eventually, Ortega headed back to the front lobby area of the gym, where he continued to fire rounds until his weapon malfunctioned. Police encountered Ortega in the front lobby area responding to a 911 call of shots being fired. Police said that an officer saw Ortega carrying a rifle and fired a round through the glass door at him.
Ortega then ran out of the business and past officers, still carrying the rifle, and two other officers opened fire. Ortega was hit by gunfire and taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, where he died.

Edgar Quinonez, 31, of Las Vegas, was identified as the person killed in the shooting, NBC News reported. The network reported that the victim had no known connection to Ortega.
Police said that Ortega worked out at the gym, but provided no motive for the shooting.
