Ohio woman Mackenzie Shirilla, who is serving 15 years to life for killing her boyfriend and his friend in a 2022 high‑speed crash, said in a recently surfaced jailhouse call that she wants Kim Kardashian to be her lawyer.

In an undated phone call from prison obtained by People, Shirilla is heard telling a person on the line that she is "real nervous" and wants the reality star and criminal justice advocate to represent her if Kardashian sees renewed media coverage of the case.

The call, recorded after her conviction, captures Shirilla explicitly saying, "I want Kim Kardashian to be my lawyer," but there is no indication that Kardashian or her legal team has responded or agreed to take the case, according to People.

Kardashian, who has previously advocated for several inmates and worked on criminal justice reform, has not publicly commented on Shirilla's request as of Friday.

Shirilla, now 21, was convicted in a 2023 bench trial of intentionally driving her car into a building at about 100 mph in Strongsville, Ohio, killing 20‑year‑old Dominic Russo and 19‑year‑old Davion Flanagan.

She was found guilty on multiple counts, including murder, felonious assault, and aggravated vehicular homicide, and was sentenced to an aggregate term of 15 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole after that minimum.

Prosecutors argued that data from the vehicle's "black box," surveillance video, and the lack of any braking showed the crash was deliberate, while the defense claimed it was an accident.

Her legal team has since pursued several appeals and post‑conviction efforts, all of which have failed so far, CourtTV reported.

In March 2026, Ohio's Eighth District Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's decision denying her post‑conviction relief petition because it was filed on the 366th day after the trial transcript was filed, one day beyond the 365‑day jurisdictional deadline under state law.

The ruling left intact the trial court's findings and her sentence, and it narrowed her remaining legal options largely to potential federal habeas corpus proceedings that focus on constitutional issues.

Earlier, the Ohio Supreme Court had already declined to hear her direct appeal, effectively affirming her conviction and sentence at the state's highest level.

Despite public comments from her parents maintaining that she is innocent and criticizing the investigation, courts have repeatedly ruled that challenges to the evidence and trial conduct do not warrant overturning the verdict, as per Hoodline.
