Family of Texas Teen Charged With Murder of Rival Athlete

The Texas teen accused of stabbing another teen to death at a track meet is living in a $900,000 home after being released from jail on bail earlier this week, according to reports.

Karmelo Anthony, 17, was released from jail on Monday after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000. Anthony faces charges after allegedly stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf to death during an altercation April 2.

The Daily Mail reported that Anthony's family has moved into a home valued at $900,000 that is located in a gated community.

A neighbor told the newspaper that the family recently purchased a new car. "He got a new car. If you look at the license plate, it's got a paper tag and it says it expires June 4," the neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Daily Mail.

Anthony's family has raised over $455,000 in donations on givesendgo.com since the criminal charges were filed. The fundraising page specifically states that the money is not going to be used only for legal costs. The family also said the money was not going to be used for bail.

"While legal defense is a critical part of this journey, we want to make it clear that this fund is not solely dedicated to legal expenses. The funds raised will also support a range of urgent and necessary needs that have emerged as a result of this situation, including — but not limited to — the safe relocation of the Anthony family due to escalating threats to their safety and well-being, as well as basic living costs, transportation, counseling, and other security measures," the page states.

Anthony is accused of stabbing Metcalf to death during a track meet. NBC News reported that Anthony, a Centennial High School student, was sitting under the Memorial High School track team's tent.

The network reported that according to a witness, Metcalf told Anthony to move, and Anthony immediately opened his bag and put his hand inside, saying, "Touch me and see what happens." Metcalf was stabbed a short time later during a physical altercation.
