Allegations continue to mount against a Salt Lake City fire captain and EMT instructor accused of sexually abusing students.

Christopher David Burk, 46, faced seven felony sex abuse charges based on allegations from two victims, ABC-4 reported. However, since the initial criminal complaint was filed, more victims have come forward, increasing the number of charges against Burk to 13.

The felony charges now include 11 counts of forcible sexual abuse and two charges of attempted forcible sexual abuse, the station reported. The incidents allegedly occurred between May 2024 through September 2024. Burk taught EMT courses at a community college and also conducted other trainings.

Burk was first arrested in January 2025, Fox 13 reported. According to the station, Burk touched at least two students, although much of the abuse occurred outside of class. For example, the station reported that Burk asked one student to stay after class to go over some things. The other student was asked by Burk to go on a ride along.

According to the station, the students said they were groped under the pretense of Burk demonstrating techniques.

In another instance, a woman reported to police that Burk did a demonstration of the Heimlich maneuver during which he allegedly pressed his groin against her, Fox News reported.

Burk was placed on leave by the Salt Lake City Fire Department, which stated it was conducting "a thorough and transparent investigation process," ABC-4 reported.
