‘Mad Max: The Wasteland’: Charlize Theron excited to return as Imperator Furiosa; George Miller prepares two different scripts

'Mad Max: The Wasteland' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film intended as the sequel to 2015's 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. Charlize Theron said that she was excited to play Imperator Furiosa again should the opportunity call for it. Director George Miller reportedly prepared two different scripts - one of which could contain Furiosa's backstory.

According to Collider, Theron expressed her enthusiasm over reprising her role Imperator Furiosa in possible films in the future of the franchise. She said, "I would love to bring her back to life, are you kidding?... To have people react to something like that where you went and worked your balls off (laughs), it's really, really nice, it kind of just puts everything into perspective. I can see how people are responding to her and I look at my little girl and I'm like, 'Yeah I'd love to play this woman again, definitely.'"

Her character was first introduced in George Miller's 2015 reboot 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. Furiosa was a top soldier under the command of Immortan Joe, whom she eventually betrays in order to free his concubines, "The Five Wives". Furiosa meets Max Rockatansy, played by Tom Hardy, and the two became allies despite some initial hostility.

It is not known whether Miller would bring her character back for 'Mad Max: The Wasteland'. It seemed that even the director himself was taken by surprise by the amount of high-octane action featured in his first reboot. According to The Movie Network, Theron admitted that she has yet to meet with the director again.

She said, "I haven't seen George since the Oscars. I think all of this has been really overwhelming for him, and he likes to take his time and he's very concise. I think if he's ready, he'll be ready, and hopefully he'll call."

According to another article on Games Radar, Miller seemed over-the-fence about having Furiosa on the sequel. The 71-year old filmmaker previously confirmed that he has prepared two different storylines for the upcoming film and one of them may have something to do with Furiosa backstory.

'Mad Max: The Wasteland' is an upcoming action-adventure film directed by George Miller. It is the sequel to the 2015 blockbuster hit 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and will feature the return of Tom Hardy as the titular character Max Rockatansky.
