‘Transformers 5’ Storyline to focus on Optimus Prime in space? Sequel gets ‘John Wick’ cinematographer

'Transformers 5' gains 'John Wick' cinematographer Jonathan Sela. Sela joins director Michael Bay and the rest of the crew for the much-awaited fifth installment in the 'Transformers' live-action cinematic series. The sequel will reportedly focus on Optimus Prime's journey in space to find the Quintessons.

According to /Film, Sela has joined the newly assembled crew of the fifth installment in the 'Transformers' franchise. The French cinematographer is best known for his work on the intense action-thriller film 'John Wick', which earned high critical acclaim - including praise for excellent visual effects - upon its release.

Sela certainly knows his action films since he worked on 2009's 'Law Abiding Citizen', 2013's 'A Good Day to Die Hard' and 2008's 'Max Payne'. He has also contributed to Miley Cyrus' controversial 'Wrecking Ball' music video as well as Green Day's "21 Gun" music video.

Series mainstay Michael Bay will be returning to helm 'Transformers 5' with a screenplay prepared by the superb scribes of Akiva Goldsman's "writer's room". According to Screen Crush, official plot details remain under wraps as of the present but speculations emerged of a storyline following Optimus Prime's journey to outer space in order to find the Quintessons, creators of the Autobots and Decepticons.

According to another article on IGN, the upcoming film could also feature an imminent battle between Optimus Prime and Unicron, the former's evil twin brother also known as the Destroyer and the Bringer of Chaos. Unicron's ultimate mission is to consume the entire universe and become the center of all things. He is considered the biggest antagonist in the 'Transformers' franchise.

Peter Cullen is returning to lend his voice to Optimus Prime while Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role as the human protagonist Cade Yeager. Goldsman, Tom DeSanto, Clayton Townsend and Don Murphy will serve as the fifth installment's producers while Steven Spielberg and Bay will be executive producing.

'Transformers 5' is an upcoming science-fiction action film intended as the sequel to 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' released in 2014. Like its predecessors, it will be directed by Michael Bay with Steven Spielberg producing. It is scheduled to be released on June 23, 2017.
