‘Fantastic Beasts Movie’: Second official trailer dropped; Dumbledore to make surprise appearance?

By

'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them' recently dropped its second official trailer. It fueled speculations of a possible appearance by Albus Dumbledore in the new film.

According to The Verge, the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff film has finally released its second official trailer offering new clips of Eddie Redmayne's lead protagonist Newt Scamander as he travels to the crowded muggle-ridden world of New York City, several decades before the story of Harry Potter starts.

The new trailer also featured other key characters including Katherine Waterston's Porpentina Goldstein, Alison Sudol's Queenie Goldstein and Dan Fogler's Jacob Kowalski. The three characters join Newt in his adventures after a number of magical creatures that escaped his briefcase threaten to sever relations between the magical and non-magical world.

The upcoming fantasy film is inspired by J.K. Rowling's book of the same name, published in 2001. The book was intended as a spinoff/prequel to the original 'Harry Potter' series, with its title purporting to the textbook on magical creatures Harry used in 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' during his first year at Hogwarts.

According to Vanity Fair, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them' will be the first in a planned series of spinoffs taken from the magical world of Harry Potter. The trailer featured a scene where the names of Hogwarts and its headmaster Albus Dumbledore were referenced and it may be possible that Dumbledore himself would make a surprise appearance in the new film.

It was noted by the Telegraph that Colin Firth, who plays Percival Graves, dropped the name of Dumbledore during a voice-over segment accompanying the trailer.

Rowling posted a vague response on Twitter afterwards that neither confirmed nor dismissed the possible development, "Albus Dumbledore is fond of Newt Scamander for the same reasons that I am fond of Newt Scamander. You're welcome."

'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film based on the Harry Potter spinoff book by J.K. Rowling. It is directed by David Yates and is scheduled to hit theaters on November 18, 2016.
