'John Wick 2', or 'John Wick: Chapter 2', has released its official plot synopsis which revealed that the story will take the titular character to Rome in order to fight off a new group of killers. Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as John Wick, with Common starring opposite as one of the latest antagonists.
According to Nerdist, Summit Entertainment finally released the sequel's official synopsis ahead of its February 2017 scheduled release. It revealed that Reeves' titular assassin will travel to Rome to face off with some of the most notorious international killers. Principal photography has commenced in New York City on October 2015 and will bring in a new cast of characters including actor and hip-hop recording artist Common and television breakout star Ruby Rose.
The first film followed John Wick as he is forced out of retirement to find revenge over the brutal killing of his beloved dog and the theft of his vintage car. He then learns that a former associate has plotted to seize control of a mysterious assassin's guild while pursuing members of Russian crime syndicate.
The film paid homage to Asian action cinema and a host of old Western films. It incorporated gun fu and neo-noir elements as well as martial arts stunts and elaborate fight choreography. It was directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, stuntmen-turned-filmmakers who worked with Reeves in the 'Matrix' films.
Meanwhile, Common opened up about his new character in 'John Wick: Chapter 2'. According to Collider, he is set to play one of the sequel's newest villains. Common revealed that he was more of a rival to John Wick and not necessarily a purely antagonistic character.
He said, "My character is less a villain than he is a rival to John Wick. They're cut from the same cloth. They're the same type of warriors. But it's time for battle, at a certain point. It's a lot of fun to get to be in this movie. We shot in some great places. I just love that world and I'm excited to see what comes from it."
The 44-year old actor added that the new film will have a new storyline that will match up to its predecessor. In fact, he said that it would be a step up in terms of action and fight sequences with greater struggles for the titular character.
According to Games Radar, Common expressed his enthusiasm over doing his own stunts much like co-star Reeves did for the first film. He said, "I told the director, Chad [Stahelski], 'I want to be one of the best dudes you've seen that has done action, that is not a stunt guy.' And he was like, 'Okay.' So, we did months of training. It was like learning a new language, learning some of the fighting techniques."
'John Wick 2', officially entitled 'John Wick: Chapter 2', is an upcoming action-thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski. It will feature the return of Keanu Reeves in the title role. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on February 10, 2017.
