First iPhone 5se Photo Leak Indicates March Unveiling

By

Mobile phone users got the first glimpse of what is believed to be iPhone 5se in an image pointing to the device’s unveiling two months from now.

Dutch tech forum, One More Thing, posted an image of the “mini iPhone” next to the iPhone 5, showing the upcoming smartphone’s round-edged design similar to that of the iPhone 6.

According to the site, the iPhone 5se is expected to be introduced in March, a brief write-up accompanying the leaked photo revealed.

One More Thing has reportedly garnered a high credibility rating for its tech leaks after having previously disclosed the iPad Air 2’s thinner display in 2014, and the first iPad Air design the year before that.

Based on the photo, the upcoming 4-inch smartphone is expected to be a “special edition” device, to be dubbed the 5se to differentiate it from Apple’s other flagship phones, the Daily Mail said.

The iPhone 5se is reportedly carrying upgraded internals, hardware, and software, with features that combine older iPhone designs with iPhone 6s technology.

According to rumors, the upcoming phone will sport Touch ID, rounded volume toggles, and a sleep switch located somewhere other than on the top of the device, 9 to 5 Mac reported.

Other expected features include an 8MP rear camera and a 1.2MP front snapper. It will also have Apple Pay’s NFC chip, a first in the brand’s 4-inch smartphone line, as well as an A8 processor and M8 co-processor currently found only on the iPhone 6.

Similarly, it will reportedly sport the iPhone 6s’ Live Photo shooting feature, and come in a metallic rose gold color.

One particular rumor points out the iPhone 5se will only have 16GB of onboard storage, which may be typical of a 4-inch phone, given its size.

While information on pricing has yet to be divulged, the 5se is expected to be launched together with the iPhone 7c in March.
