Rumored Microsoft Lumia 650 Said to be the Last Lumia Model to be Unveiled Next Month

Microsoft’s final Lumia phone, the Lumia 650 is rumored to have a February 1 launch date, leaked information has revealed.

The Redmond, Washington tech giant is reportedly gearing to unveil what is to be its final smartphone in the Lumia series on February 1st, ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain late next month.

Rumors abound that Microsoft is not planning to add any new model to its Lumia line, and will instead move on to its new Surface Phone, Yahoo reported.

Lumia 650 is expected to run Windows 10, like the Lumia 550 before it, and will feature a 5-inch 720p touchscreen display.

Powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 or 212 chipset, NDTV reports the Lumia 650 will be backed by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory expandable via a microSD slot.

Featuring an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front shooter, the purported final Lumia smartphone will run on a 2,000mAh battery, and come complete with other hinted features like Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, Wi-Fi calling, Bluetooth 4.1, HD Voice, a dual-SIM slot, and NFC.

According to leaks reported by The Verge, the Lumia 650 will be a business-focused phone available in Matte White and Matte Black variations, and will be priced as a budget phone, similar to the Lumia 550.

Questions remain as to rumors of two other Lumia phones that were reportedly canceled after the company’s most recent flagship devices, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, failed to boost the brand.

Microsoft, which holds only 1.7 percent of the world’s mobile phone market, is said to be planning to compete with smartphone leaders, Apple and Samsung, by abandoning its Lumia line and focusing instead on a new model, the Surface Phone.

With the success of its Surface tablets, the software giant has set its sights on marketing a mobile phone version, which it is reportedly planning to unveil during the second quarter of this year.
