iOS to Get Microsoft’s Windows Phone Word Flow Keyboard Soon

By

Microsoft is said to be working on bringing one of its much talked about Windows Phone feature, the Word Flow, to iOS.

Previously exclusive to Microsoft devices and platforms, the Word Flow keyboard offers a number of features unique to mobile phones, such as Swype-style typing and gestures, which are touted to make the platform easy to use.

Reports have emerged that testers are currently being brought in to assess the Word Flow feature on iPhones, Apple Insider wrote.

Microsoft has already sent an email to selected Windows Insiders to solicit feedback, with invitations to participate in the beta testing program. However, no information has been released on when Word Flow on iOS devices would start public testing.

According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, the tech giant has expressed its intention to do away with its platform exclusivity to get their products and technology to as many consumers as possible.

In the same manner that a number of Office apps have now been made available on both iOS and Android, Microsoft has recently ported one of its Window 10 and Windows Phone signature features, the Cortana voice assistant, Windows Central reported.

Based on the email invitation sent by Microsoft, which revealed it may be extending the Word Flow keyboard on to other platforms, Google’s Android OS is likely to be the next in line, PC World said.

While the Windows platform is considered one of the most popular and widely-used operating systems around the world, Microsoft’s Windows phones have yet to successfully hop on to this bandwagon, with the mobile phone market dominated by Android and iOS platforms.

As part of its bid to breach this exclusivity and bring the Windows phone platform into competitive form, Microsoft is reportedly shelving its Lumia line, and bringing in its rumored Surface Phone to the market this year.
