Georgia Rep. John Lewis, who was the youngest speaker at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28 1963, and is now the last surviving speaker from that day, was an instrumental leader part of the movement.
School district officials in San Bernandino said that they will discontinue a policy requiring elementary students to kneel down before being dismissed in class. Principal Dana Carter at Calimesa Elementary School instituted the policy, calling for students at various times of the school day to kneel and wait for the principal or administrator to dismiss them, news reports said.
About 50 people were injured Thursday when a tour bus rolled over about twenty miles northeast of Los Angeles in the town of Irwindale.
