Police in suburban Chicago say a teenager attacked and murdered a pregnant woman in her apartment in a botched robbery, before setting the residence on fire.

Eliza Morales, 30, of Downers Grove, was five months pregnant when she was apparently stabbed to death by Nedas Revuckas, 19, NBC 5 reported. Police believe Revuckas went to the apartment to commit a robbery. Morales' family has said the teenager was unknown to the family.

Events unfolded around 6 p.m. Monday when firefighters responded to a fire call in an apartment building. As they fought the fire, the first responders found Morales' body with stab wounds, the station reported.

ABC-7 reported that investigators believe Morales encountered the suspect on her doorstep and that they believe he intended to commit an armed robbery. Morales' mother-in-law told the station that she was taking care of Morales' young daughter in a nearby apartment at the time of the attack.

The station reported that her husband, Gabriel, was at work when his wife was murdered.

"I'm gonna spend the rest of my life missing her," Gabriel Morales told ABC-7. " I can get every second back with her and just continue try to live through her for my daughter. And continue to be strong for my family."

Revuckas charges include first-degree murder, armed robbery, arson, and intentional homicide of an unborn child, police said.
