A Florida USPS driver faces criminal charges after he allegedly tried to run down a 10-year-old boy because he thought the child was stealing a package.
Turns out the package was delivered to the wrong address, and the child was being a good Samaritan by taking it to the correct residence.
"This isn't just a simple, 'Oops,' crash with a 10-year-old in the road," Florida Highway Patrol Capt. Jason King told local ABC affiliate WEAR. "This is an intentional act by a United States postal worker."
William White Jr., 41, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petit theft, and criminal mischief related to the Dec. 27 incident, the Pensacola News Journal reported.
After White delivered the package to the wrong address, the child put it on his electric scooter and headed for the right address. White saw this, thought the package was being stolen, and began chasing the child, the newspaper reported.
"White then purposely drove the USPS vehicle towards the child and ran over the scooter," a Florida Highway Patrol states according to the newspaper. "The child was able to get into the nearby yard prior to the scooter being hit."
White proceeded to yell at the child, before taking the scooter he had run over and throwing it into the postal vehicle. The newspaper reported that a family member of the child saw what happened and chased after White leading him to toss the scooter in a yard.
