An Ohio man facing arrest on a minor shoplifting charge pulled a gun on the responding police officer and attempted to shoot him.

Dramatic video of the incident posted by Cleveland 19 shows Shane Newman, 21, and Katerina Jeffrey, 23, being stopped by a store loss prevention officer as they attempt to leave a Walmart shopping center.

Later, while still with loss prevention in the back of the store, law enforcement arrives. Newman and Jeffrey are sitting on a couch when Newman turns to his right, appearing to get something. He then faces forward, holding a gun and pointing it at the police officer.

Jeffrey, horrified at Newman pulling the gun, yells "No, no no" as the loss prevention officer jumps onto Newman and begins wrestling for the gun. The officer first evades the gun, before returning to help the prevention officer subdue Newman while Jeffrey scurries away.

"The safety and security of our customers and associates is always a top priority. We're proud of the brave action our asset protection associate took to maintain the safety of everyone in our store. We'll continue to work with police as they investigate," Jessie Carpenter, Walmart Asset Protection Operations Coach, told Cleveland 19.

Newman is charged with attempted murder, felonious assault on a police officer, robbery, drug possession and having a weapon under disability. Jeffrey, 23, is charged with complicity to commit a robbery.

According to Cleveland 19, Newman was issued a $1 million bond while Jeffrey was given a $500,000 bond.
