A British woman accused of killing her husband wrote "bye bye" on a calendar hours after his death.
Daryl Berman, 71, is accused of killing her 84-year-old husband David Berman in March, the Manchester Evening News reported. The couple had been married for 27 years.
Although prosecutors pointed out the "bye bye" on the calendar, it was not written until after David Berman died. The message also included two kisses and a heart.
Berman's death was originally deemed an accident, the newspaper reported. Daryl told police that her husband had fallen and accidentally landed on a knife she had been using for lunch.
In testimony, Daryl told jurors that after lunch her husband had offered to take the tray into the kitchen. The knife was on the tray. It was then that she heard a noise like a fall.
The newspaper reported that there was no history of domestic discord, and that testimony indicated the couple had a loving and supportive marriage.
When asked if she murdered her husband, Daryl Berman said, "Absolutely not," the newspaper reported. "I loved him. I just wanted to look after him and care for him."
