A Michigan couple allegedly lured their daughter who was 38 weeks pregnant to their home with plans to physically take her baby.
According to prosecutors, Rebecca Park, 22, went to the home of her mother, Cortney Bartholomew, 40, and her stepfather, Bradly Bartholomew, 47, on November 3. Once there, they attempted to remove the baby, killing both in the process.
"This case involves a truly horrific homicide in which a young woman and her unborn child endured unimaginable suffering at the hands of the Defendants," said Wexford County Prosecutor Johanna Carey. "The brutality and disregard for human life displayed here are deeply troubling. While these remain allegations until proven in court, the evidence reflects an extraordinary level of callousness and violence. We look forward to presenting the full facts in court."
Park was reported missing on November 4, and her body was found in the Manistee National Forest on November 25, about 100 miles north of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Park's baby was due three days before her body was found and she was no longer pregnant when searchers found her dead body, Cadillac News reported.
Cortney Bartholomew and Bradly Bartholomew now face numerous charges, including first-degree murder, torture, and conspiracy to commit torture.
"Rebecca had everything to live for, and our hearts are with her loved ones as they endure this unthinkable loss," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. "We are committed to working alongside the Wexford County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to ensure justice is pursued in this tragic case without delay."
Park's sister and fiancé also currently face criminal charges, although it is unclear if those criminal charges relate to her disappearance and death.
Cadillac News reported that Park's sister, Kimberly Sue Park, was charged with tampering with evidence in a criminal case punishable by more than 10 years, lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation, and filing a false report of a felony. The newspaper reported that those charges apparently stemmed from incidents that happened on November 22.
Meanwhile, Park's finance, Richard Lee Falor, 43, was charged with two counts of delivering methamphetamine. Those charges stem from incidents that happened between June 17 and Aug. 11, the Cadillac News reported.
PEOPLE reported that the pair were arrested within a day of Park's body being found. Falor was arrested and charged at 7:30 p.m. on November 25 and Kimberly Sue Park was arrested the morning of November 26.
