Virginia authorities are searching for a high school football coach who disappeared amidst an undefeated season.
State police have confirmed they have been searching for Union High School head football coach Travis Turner. The 46-year-old was last seen on Thursday.
Turner has been added to the state missing person database. It states that he was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, sweatpants, and glasses.
Virginia state police told WLOS-13 that they were called to Turner's home Thursday evening. However, by the time they arrived, he was gone. Police told the station that they were not on their way to arrest Turner.
While the search for Turner was ongoing, Wise County Schools announced that it had placed an unidentified staff member on administrative leave, WCYB-5 reported.
Here is the statement shared with the station:
"At this time, a staff member has been placed on administrative leave with pay while an external agency reviews an allegation that was reported to us. This is standard procedure and not a determination of wrongdoing. The division cannot comment further."
Turner began coaching at Union High in 2011. While the state police searched for their coach this weekend, the football team continued its undefeated season, extending its record to 12-0, WLOS-13 reported. Before its Saturday game against Graham High School, Union High School gathered for a community prayer.
