Newly released emails show Jeffrey Epstein and a writer discussing how the disgraced financier could possibly create political currency with President Trump.
The email exchange was between Epstein and writer Michael Wolff in 2015, ABC News reported. Wolff has written four book about the Trump presidencies.
"I hear CNN planning to ask Trump tonight about his relationship with you-either on air or in scrum afterwards," Wolff wrote to Epstein in December 2015, according to ABC News.
"If we were to craft an answer for him, what do you think it should be?" Epstein reportedly replied.
"I think you should let him hang himself," Wolff replied, according to ABC News. "If he says he hasn't been on the plane or to the house, then that gives you a valuable PR and political currency. You can hang him in a way that potentially generates a positive benefit for you, or, if it really looks like he could win, you could save him, generating a debt. Of course, it is possible that, when asked, he'll say Jeffrey is a great guy and has gotten a raw deal and is a victim of political correctness, which is to be outlawed in a Trump regime."
The emails are part of more than 23,000 documents received by the House Oversight Committee related to the Epstein case from the Justice Department.
Epstein, a disgraced financier who had ties to prominent individuals, including President Trump and former President Bill Clinton, was found dead in his jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Maxwell was found guilty in 2021 of child sex trafficking charges and is serving a 20-year sentence.
President Trump has not been accused of wrongdoing in the case. ABC News also noted that the entire context of the emails was not clear based on the partial release of documents. Also, some information was redacted, including the names of Epstein alleged victims.
The Democrats also released emails between Epstein and Wolff in 2019. In that exchange, Epstein responds to comments that Trump had asked him to resign from Mar-a-Lago as a club member.
"Trump said he asked me to resign, never a member ever," Epstein wrote, "Of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop"
