The FBI is now investigating the case of an 18-year-old who died on a Carnival Cruise.
Anna Kepner and her family were aboard Carnival Horizon as it sailed from Miami to the Caribbean when the 18-year-old straight-A student died, ABC News reported. The cruise ship returned to Miami this weekend, and the FBI began investigating the case.
The details of how Kepner died have not been made public.
"When she walked into a room, she would light it up," family members told ABC News. "If you were sad, she'd make you laugh. She would joke around and be the funniest little person in school."
Family also revealed that Kepner was considering joining the military, according to ABC News.
"She had just finished taking the test to join the military," they said. "She was already talking to recruiters and had chosen her career path. She wanted to do something that would help her community."
Fox 35 reported that Kepner was described as a happy, bubbly personality who enjoyed volunteering at her grandparents' 55 and older community.
"I broke down," Gennavicia Guerrero, who's known Kepner since grade school told FOX 35. "I looked through all of our pictures immediately. I missed her so much. I really cried."
"When I went around Anna, everything was good vibes. I always got good grades because of her. She kept me on track. She would make me happy," Guerrero told Fox 35.
ABC News reported that Carnival Cruise Line confirmed Kepner's death. The company said in a statement to ABC that they were focused on supporting Kepner's family and cooperating with the FBI's investigation.
