A workplace dispute at a Michigan McDonald's ended in violence when a manager was stabbed to death by an employee who had been sent home earlier in the evening.
According to reports, the attack was witnessed by a drive-thru customer, who pulled out a gun, fired a shot that didn't strike anyone, and then held the alleged perpetrator at gunpoint until police arrived, WDIV 4 reported.
Afeni Badu Muhammad, 26, of Eastpointe, faces charges of first-degree murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and being a habitual offender, second offense, in connection with the Thursday fatal stabbing of 39-year-old McDonald's manager Jennifer Harris, WDIV 4 reported.
According to the station, Muhammad had been sent home earlier by Harris following an argument. Prosecutors said that Muhammad decided to kill Harris, donned a mask to hide her face, and returned to the restaurant with a kitchen knife, the station reported.
"She produced a weapon that was a knife longer than 3 inches, and she stabbed the victim multiple times, up to possibly as many as 15 times, eventually causing her death," an assistant prosecutor said during Muhammad's arraignment, according to WDIV 4.
CBS News reported that Muhammad's bond was set at $25 million. Her next court appearance will be a probable cause conference on July 23.
CBS reported that Harris had worked at the McDonald's for 15 years and was the mother of six children. The station reported that Muhammad made a post to social media on July 8 complaining about work and how she had been sent home early.
CBS also reported that the customer who intervened in the attack was legally carrying a concealed weapon and fired a shot in an attempt to stop the knife attack.
