Texas 4-Month-Old Found Dead in Hotel Drawer After Mom Laughed At Housekeeper For Confronting Her About Child's Safety

Texas parents who allegedly used a drawer as a makeshift crib now face murder charges after their 4-month-old daughter suffocated.

Jeremy Fancher, 37, and Destiny Campos, 21, each were charged with murder this week following an investigation into the child's May 2024 death.

The couple were living at a Days Inn at the time of the incident. A housekeeper who worked there told police that the baby had repeatedly been put in the drawer.

"The witness confronted management and presented them with a photograph she took of the [baby] inside the drawer and demanded they do something about it by either talking to the parents or reporting it to CPS," court documents state.

The witness told police she also confronted Campos directly about the situation, and Campos told her "it was okay while laughing," according to court documents.

The documents state that the towels were placed in the edges of the drawer to prevent the baby from kicking it open. The housekeeper stated that on one occasion she entered the room and heard the baby crying. She opened the drawer because it was closed. She told police that the then repeatedly tried to wake Campos up but was unable to do so. At the time, the couple's 18-month-old child was on the floor eating crumbs.

The document also quotes the baby's grandmother, Luaan Simon. Simon told police that when the couple stayed with her for a time, Campos admitted to placing the baby in a drawer on more than one occasion. When the couple needed time alone, and the baby was crying too much, Simon said she was told that "they would shut her in the drawer."

An autopsy performed on May 27, 2024, found that the baby did not have any trauma but died from suffocation.
