A North Carolina man who previously served 11 years for killing his uncle is now accused of a double homicide that happened over an argument about trash.
Police responded to a call at about 6:45 p.m. June 15 and found Teresa Davis, 63, and her son, Joseph Jeffreys Jr., 26, dead from gunshot wounds.
Michael Sharron Wright, 41, faces homicide charges related to the deaths. Police said that Wright was last seen fleeing the scene in a Hyundai Sonata with the North Carolina license plate KEE-6554.
CBS 17 reported that according to witnesses, an argument over trash preceded the shooting. The witnesses said that Jeffreys confronted Wright about several garbage bags that had been thrown onto Davis' yard.
"It was over trash over some freakin trash. This woman is gone. This boy is gone, over some trash," said Davis' friend, Tennisha Eaton told CBS 17.
The station reported that Wright had previously served 11 years on charges related to the death of his uncle.
The witnesses told CBS 17 that Davis had recently moved to live with Jeffreys and the family had returned to the house to pick up a few things. Jeffreys children were in the car at the time of the shooting.
"That's so heartbreaking for the grandkids to be in the car, his kids to see their daddy and their grandmother get killed. That's senseless," Eaton told CBS 17.
