An Indiana man who police say shot and killed three family members, including his wife, reportedly told authorities he was "not proud" of his actions.
Patrick J. Waite, 77, told detectives, "I shot them all. I'm certainly not proud of that fact," reported the Courier & Press. In an affidavit quoted by the newspaper Waite is quoted as saying "I'm as guilty as guilty can be."
Waite is charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The murder victims were identified as Waite's wife, Alma Waite, 61; his son in-law, Fernando Tapia Ramirez Sr., 39, and his mother in-law, Gloria Garcia Tapia, 81, the newspaper reported.
According to police, Waite was arrested at the scene of the crime on May 29. He is being held in Gibson County Jail without bond.
Despite his statements quoted in the affidavit, Waite pleaded "not guilty" to charges, according to the Courier & Press. The newspaper also reported that an argument with his estranged wife over who would keep the home exploded into violence.
The argument reportedly involved efforts by Waite's wife to put the home in their daughter's name, Law and Crime reported.
According to police they were greeted at the door of the residence by a witness who directed them to where Waite was last seen. He was quickly arrested. Police also found a critically injured victim who was flown via a medical helicopter to an area hospital for further treatment.
