An explosion outside of a California fertility clinic that killed one person and injured four others was an act of terrorism, according to the FBI.
A car exploded outside the American Reproductive Centers (ARC) around 11 a.m. Saturday in Palm Springs. Police believe that the person who was killed in the blast was likely the person responsible, CNN reported.
"Make no mistake, this is an intentional act of terrorism," Akil Davis, the agency's assistant director in charge of the Los Angeles' field office, told CNN, adding that the FBI believes the clinic was specifically targeted.
Although the FBI believes that the person responsible for the attack died in the blast, the condition of the body means that it might take some time to positively identify the remains.
CNN reported that authorities are looking into a rambling audio posted online in which a man said he planned to attack an in vitro fertilization clinic. The network described the audio as often being "incoherent," and that it included various complaints about the man's life, but no clear connection was made by the man to the clinic.
Authorities found an AK-47 and an AR-platform rifle and ammunition next to the exploded car, the Los Angeles Times reported. The newspaper reported that the suspect was a 25-year-old man. Aside from the audio recording, authorities also believed they linked a website to the man.
"Let's make it happen sooner rather than later ... to prevent your future suffering, and, more importantly, the suffering your existence will cause to all the other sentient beings," the site reads according to the Times.
