A Detroit man who police say killed his wife by beating her with a plastic sword and a large pair of plumber's pliers told authorities he thought she had been possessed by a "demon."
Timothy Morgan, 68, faces first-degree murder charges in the May 4 homicide. According to police, Morgan walked into a police station at 4:31 a.m. and told officers that he "killed the demon pretending to be my wife, and I'm turning myself in."
Police went to Morgan's home, where they found his wife, 67-year-old Kathryn Morgan, dead from multiple wounds to the back of her head. During his arraignment, assistant prosecuting attorney Tina Moynahan described the scene as "something from a horror movie."
She noted that Moran had no prior criminal history but asked the judge to deny bond and that he was a danger to the public.
"This is, by far, one of the worst cases I've seen in my career," she said, adding that there was blood splattered throughout the apartment, as well as skull and tissue fragments on the walls and ceiling.
"Morgan does make an admission to officers," she said, adding that he told police when he turned himself in that he had "killed a demon inhabiting his wife."
The judge agreed with the request, denying bond and saying the case was "extremely concerning" and that he had "high concerns" related to the safety of the public.
At the end of the hearing, Morgan addressed the judge.
"I don't want to hurt anyone," Morgan said. "You're right."
