A Louisiana man faces murder charges after police say he beat his stepdad to death and then bragged about it in messages to his brother.

Ian Seghers, 34, faces first-degree murder charges in the March death of his stepdad, Walter Rowland, 66, according to WAFB. Police said Seghers, who was caught in Mississippi, had a "rocky relationship" with Rowland. The station reported that police were able to identify where the crime occurred despite Seghers's attempts to cover it up.

"Even though he made an attempt to clean it, through the technology and equipment we have we were able to see that a scene did occur there," Baton Rogue public information officer Lt. L'Jean McKneely told WAFB-9.

The station reported that a K-9 unit helped find remains not visible to the naked eye, including large amounts of blood that had once been in the victim's bedroom. According to WAFB-9, police also found blood splatter on the ceiling and in a spot where carpet was removed.

WLOX-13 reported that Seghers left his brother, Sean Crawford, voice messages through Facebook that apparently referenced the incident: "I put a hammer in my pants and everything and walked up in that b***h to do it."

Rowland was reported missing on March 9, and Crawford had not heard from his brother since then. Then, last Friday, he received a phone call from him, WLOX-13 reported.

"During the middle of the conversation, he's asking me if I can help get heroin. He's telling me I need to hurry up because this will be the last time I'm able to see him," Crawford told the station. "I'm telling him, you don't sound right, what's going on?"

Crawford alerted police that his brother was staying in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, adding that the communications with his brother led him to believe he had something to do with the disappearance, WLOX-13 reported.
