A California man was convicted of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in a murder that she narrated herself, in an eerie voicemail message while calling a friend for help.

Craig J. Charron, 39, was found guilty of first-degree murder on April 29 in the fatal stabbing of Laura Sardinha.

Sardinha, 25, had taken steps to try and protect herself from Charron in the weeks leading up to the September 2020 slaying, including having her locks changed, the Los Angeles Times reported.

On the day of the murder, after ignoring Charron's repeated phone calls and text messages, he showed up at her house around 1:15 p.m. Sardinha was on a three-way call with her best friend and her mother when she exclaimed, "Oh my God, he's here," the newspaper reported.

The call ended, and the friend dialed 911. Sardinha called the friend back at the same time and left a voicemail in which she screams "He's gonna kill me!" and "Get away from me!" the Los Angeles Times reported.

"If you listen to it carefully, you hear a woman narrating her own murder," Orange County Deputy District Attorney Janine Madera told jurors, according to the newspaper.

During the trial, three of Charron's ex-girlfriends testified that they had taken out restraining orders against him and documented various forms of physical abuse and harassment.
