An Alabama man says he's ready to be put to death, noting that his life was "forfeited" when he raped and murdered his girlfriend's cousin.

James Osgood, 55, is set to be executed in Alabama on Thursday.

"The reason I dropped my appeals is I am guilty of murder," Osgood told The Associated Press. "I'm a firm believer in, like I said in court, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. I took a life, so mine was forfeited. I don't believe in sitting here and wasting everybody's time and everybody's money."

In 2010, Osgood and his girlfriend, Tonya Vandyke, attacked Wilemon in her bedroom, USA TODAY recalled. The outlet clarified that although Wilemon's legal name is Brown, the family had requested that her maiden name be used in reporting.

Osgood later confessed to the killing, telling authorities that both he and Vandyke sexually assaulted the woman.

"I know there was a lot of cutting involved but it wasn't a crime of violence. There was no anger involved. I was scared. She wasn't dying, so I kept cutting her throat and neck," Osgood told police, according to USA TODAY. "I told her I was sorry. It was nothing against her. She just needed to quit fighting and go."

Vandyke was sentenced to life in prison for her role in the attack.
