Jurors in Alabama were shown text messages which prosecutors say show hired hitmen demanding payment, after killing a 24-year-old woman.

Demarcus Chandler, 27, faces capital murder charges in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Raven Swain. Prosecutors allege that Chandler hired 28-year-old Solomon Minatee III for $8,000, AL.com reported.

"Bruh, we need the money. The work is done," Minatee allegedly texted Chandler about an hour after Swain was murdered in 2020, the website reported.

Chandler is currently incarcerated for parole violations related to other criminal activity. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. At the time of Swain's death, Chandler already was facing felony charges of domestic violence strangulation/suffocation in which Swain was the victim, AL.com reported.

Chandler was incarcerated at the time of Swain's death. At the behest of Birmingham investigators, an Alabama Department of Corrections lieutenant searched his cell and found a cell phone, which investigators say was used to plan the killing, AL.com reported.

Prosecutors contend that Chandler believed that Swain had "ripped him off" while he was in prison, AL.com reported.
