New York Police are searching for a man who torched another person in Times Square, causing burns to his face and arms.

The suspect grabbed a container with flammable liquid from a food cart, doused the victim, and lit him on fire around 4 a.m., the New York Post reported. The victim and the assailant reportedly knew each other and had been having a conversation earlier in the evening.

The Post detailed that, after the conversation, the 45-year-old victim went into a club, and when he came out later, the assailant grabbed the liquid and torched him. Officials believe it could have been a bottle of tequila.

The victim then reportedly ran 100 feet while on fire before a Good Samaritan put him out with a fire extinguisher.

"[The victim] looks familiar," Anne Lee, 26, a restaurant worker in the area told the Post. "I see him hanging around here when I have to come in early.

"Yeah, it's pretty scary before 8 or 9 a.m.," she continued. "There are no cops on these blocks at all. These side streets. They're really only on the avenues, and they only give directions to tourists."

The man was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition, police said. The suspect fled, but officials are trying to get security camera footage to identify him.
