A Texas man was found covered in blood after police say he beat his wife to death with a clothing iron, and her sister is revealing that despite their marriage not being in a "good situation,", she held out hope things would someday change.

Chance Zane Chavez, 34, faces murder charges after police arrived at the home around 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday. Arriving officers found him standing in the doorway of his home with blood on his arms, legs, and clothing, Fox 26 reported. Inside, police found 32-year-old Kristen Chavez bludgeoned to death.

A magistrate court judge set his bond at $250,000. Her mother told Fox 26 that the marriage had been troubled.

"And even though it was not a good situation, staying in it, hoping that things will change," Laura Bell told the station. "We're hoping that he remains in jail until the trial and throughout the trial for him to be held accountable for what he's done.".

In the aftermath of the killing, one of Kristen's four dogs was missing. On Friday, family members announced the had found the dog, a dachshund named Peaches, dead. It was unclear how the animal died, Click2Houston reported.

The family told the TV station that they believe after the murder Chance dumped the animals. Three of the dogs were rescued near the Katy Freeway and Greenhouse Road and reunited with Kristen's family members.

"She loved them like her children. So those are my grandkids or granddogs, I should say," Bell told the station.
