A Florida pastor's wife is clinging to life after a man posing as a community service officer attacked her in her home, according to a report.

Lucy Pat Curl, 85, was attacked Friday, Jan. 31 by Ronald Dwayne Davis, 55, Spectrum News 13 reported. The arrest affidavit stated that she was on life support and that "any surgery to assist with the swelling in her brain cannot be completed" because of her age, the station reported.

Police say that Davis banged on Curl's door, and when she answered, he told her he had to search her home. The woman asked for ID, and Davis, acting as if he was getting his ID, forced his way in, and the beating ensued, the station reported.

"Thank you to everyone for your encouraging words and especially your prayers. These are what are supporting us through this awful time. Still no change in her condition," Carol Rickman wrote February 4 on a Caringbridge page created for Curl. "If you don't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, please come to know Him. He is our only Hope, Peace, Comfort, Strength, Guide, Rock and Savior!"

Curl was still conscious after the attack. She could not find her phone to call for help, and got in her car and honked the horn. Eventually, she went back into the house and was later found on her couch by her husband, Pastor William "Bill" Curl Spectrum News 13 reported. The couple have been together 52 years.

"It is such a senseless, violent event that makes... I can't give you an explanation," Fox News 35 quoted Dr. David Uth, senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Orlando. "So we're praying today that that miracle comes. But, we're prepared that if the Lord chooses to heal her, taking her home – that'll be OK too."

Davis left his wallet and driver's license at the crime scene. The station reported that he has been charged with home invasion robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery on person over 65 with great bodily harm and aggravated battery with a weapon.
