A New Jersey man, who is a registered sex offender, allegedly stabbed his fiancé to death just 24 hours after sharing a Facebook video of his public marriage proposal to her.

Jose Melo, 52, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 31-year-old Naket Jadix Trinidad Maldonado, the Independent reported.

Melo posted a video of his marriage proposal to Facebook. In the video, Melo drops to one knee while displaying a ring and a crowd erupts with cheers. The Facebook post states, "I love you baby Flaka Naky Bella".

The events unfolded Dec. 30 when police responded at about 9 a.m. to a report of a stabbing. There, police found the body of Maldonado, a mother of two, the New York Post reported.

Melo is a registered sex offender, having been convicted in 2010 of aggravated criminal sexual contact for threatening a woman with a box cutter and sexually assaulting her, the New York Post stated, citing state sex offender registry records.

A GoFundMe page has been established Maldonado's aunt. "Naky was senselessly taken from us on December 30 in an act of evil. This horrible act by someone she trusted left her two children without either parent and with very little options for their future," the page states.
