A murder suspect in Alabama, who was out on bond and wearing an ankle monitor, allegedly killed another man after allowing his monitoring device to lose power.

In 2022, Nyyon Sanders and his brother were charged with murder. Despite the charges, Sanders was released on bond under the condition that he wear an ankle monitor, Fox 10 TV reported.

On Monday night, Sanders reportedly shot Joseph Evans Jr. at the Dauphin Gate apartments in Mobile, Alabama, after his ankle device lost battery.

"How many times is it gonna take for a person to kill someone? Just like the second time, how many chances is he going to get?" Joseph Evans Sr. said. "It'll be a third time for someone's family to go through what me and the first family done went through. So I hope justice is served."

Investigators say the system failed to alert any authorities, enabling Sanders to violate his bond terms and enter a restricted area.

District Attorney Keith Blackwood revealed the monitoring company was not aware of the violation until the following morning.

"From what I understand Sanders allowed his ankle monitor to go dead after 5 p.m. and within four hours had committed the murder," Blackwood said.

Sanders was arrested two days later and his bond was revoked. Following the incident, Blackwood advocated for shifting ankle monitoring responsibilities to law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, Sanders remains in custody awaiting a January 2025 trial for his 2022 murder charge. He now faces new charges for the second murder.
