A 21-year-old man changed his plea to guilty in the fatal stabbing of his 52-year-old coworker whom he reportedly harbored a crush on.

Spridal Hubiak underwent a court-ordered mental health evaluation to ensure he understood the implications of his guilty plea and the associated charges. When he affirmed he did, the judge accepted the new plea.

"I do find there is sufficient evidence to support this charge, and that the plea is voluntary," the judge stated, per News Center Maine.

Hubiak killed Angela Bragg in December 2023. They both worked at Damon's Beverage in Waterville, Maine, and, although court documents revealed he was infatuated with the victim, Bragg's daughter compared their relationship to that of a mother and son, according to WGME.

Court documents revealed Hubiak planned Bragg's killing for weeks. Prosecutors cited a note Hubiak wrote that explained, "Angela hadn't done anything to provoke it... he just wanted to do it."

On the day of the fatal stabbing, surveillance videos showed Hubiak walking behind Bragg with a sharp object while she stood at a cash register. He then said, "I'm sorry" before stabbing her while she begged for her life.

The victim's body was later found in a tasting room by a coworker, per WGME.

Hubiak faces a minimum of 25 years in prison.
