New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been charged with federal crimes, according to authorities.

A former police captain, Adams was elected nearly three years ago as the city's 110th mayor, according to the New York Times.

This marks the first time a sitting New York City mayor has been indicted on criminal charges.

As of Wednesday night, the indictment remained sealed, leaving the specific charge or charges against Mr. Adams unknown.
