‘Riddick 4’: Vin Diesl reveals possible origin story, running title; Development to begin early 2017

'Riddick 4' may have been teased by lead actor Vin Diesel in previous interviews but nothing is set in stone as of the present. The actor is busy working on several upcoming film projects including 'XXX: The Return of Xander Cage', where he is co-starring with Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone.

According to Screen Junkies, Diesel may have hinted at an upcoming new installment in the 'Chronicles of Riddick' franchise but development has been quiet as of the moment. The actor announced a possible new project speculated to be the fourth film in the science-fiction and adventure series created in 2000 that gained a small yet dedicated cult following.

Diesel previously revealed in an eight-minute long live video posted on Facebook, "You all know I'm working on Fast 8...you all know Guardians of The Galaxy 2 just started filming...you all know Disney is writing The Pacifier 2 as requested by my daughter...you know that I'm working on xXx 3...what other character...what OTHER film have you all been waiting for?" Although he didn't specify 'Riddick 4', fans have already been eager to see what adventures Richard B. Riddick would be engaged in next.

The 'Chronicles of Riddick' universe was created following the release of 2000's 'Pitch Black'. The film was widely recognized as Diesel's first ever breakthrough role.

The original film was set 500 years in the future and told the story of a dangerous criminal-turned-antihero, Riddick, who escaped out of a spacecraft bound to transport him to prison. When predatory extraterrestrials went on to attack the survivors of the damaged spacecraft, Riddick allied himself with the crew as well as its other passengers in order to escape the planet where their vehicle crash landed.

According to an article on Entertainment Weekly, Diesel teased that the planned installment may tell Riddick's origin story. He revealed through Instagram that 'Riddick 4' would be under the running title 'Furia' and could start shooting sometime in early 2017.

For the meantime, the 48-year old actor seems to have his hands tied with several full-feature film projects coming up including 'Fast 8', 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' and 'XXX: The Return of Xander Cage'. According to Bollywood Life, Diesel has been hard at work on the third film in the 'XXX' series after several images showing him with co-stars Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose and Kris Wu on the filming set emerged online.

'Riddick 4' is a planned science-fiction and adventure film slated to begin development in early 2017. It is intended as the fourth installment in the popular 'Chronicles of Riddick' film series.
