‘Doctor Strange’ first official trailer finally arrives; Mads Mikkelsen to play main villain Dormammu?

'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film intended as part of the MCU. It recently debuted its first official trailer showing Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular surgeon-turned-superhero Stephen Strange a.k.a Doctor Strange. Mads Mikkelsen is rumored to play the main villain Dormammu as Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo is reportedly not the central antagonist.

The latest trailer for Scott Derrickson's upcoming addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe debuted on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' on April 12 as part of the television show's "superhero week", according to The Washington Post. It showed the first look at Benedict Cumberbatch's titular Sorcerer Supreme in action as he travels to an exotic land in hopes of training to become one of Earth's mightiest superheroes. The visuals promised a psychedelic magic trip to dimensions yet unknown in the MCU.

According to The Guardian, it also featured a host of other characters including Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo,Tilda Swinton's Ancient One and Rachel McAdams in a mysterious physician role. It was reported that Ejiofor will play the Ancient One's former disciple who turns evil. It is not known whether his character will be the upcoming film's central villain.

Another article by Inverse suggested that Mads Mikkelsen's yet unnamed role may possibly be of Dormammu, otherwise known as the Lord of Darkness of the Lord of Chaos. The character was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and first appeared in the Marvel comic book 'Strange Tales #126' published in 1964. Dormammu was established as the god-tyrant of an alternate dimension and is best known as one of Doctor Strange's greatest enemies.

'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming fantasy-adventure film featuring Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role. It is directed by Scott Derrickson with a screenplay penned by C. Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 4, 2016.
