'Captain Marvel' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film that may feature Olivia Wilde in the titular role as Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel. The actress may be in the running for the lead role while Rebecca Ferguson and Emily Blunt continue to be fan favorites.
According to the Morning Ledger, Wilde has secured the role for the much-coveted Marvel superhero after trumping several actresses lined up to portray her. However, this remains unconfirmed as no official casting announcements have been made as of the present.
Wilde is only one of the numerous fan favorites eyed to play the titular female superhero existing in the Marvel universe. According to Cinema Blend, actresses including Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Natalie Dormer and Katie Sackhoff have all been named as possible candidates for the role.Ronda Rousey, Katherine Winnick and Sienna Miller also publicly expressed their interest in getting the part.
It remains unknown which 'Captain Marvel' character will be the focus of the planned adaptation. Mar-Vell is considered original Captain Marvel created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan for 'Marvel Super-Heroes #12' published in 1967.
Succeeding characters who took over the name include Monica Rambeu, Genis-Vell, Phyla-Vell, Khn'nr and Noh-Varr. Currently, Carol Danvers holds the title of Captain Marvel a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. It was assumed that the character created by Kelly Sue DeConnick would be the one adapted on the big screen.
According to Blastr, Nicole Perlman of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' fame and Meg LeFauve of 'Inside Out' fame would be collaborating on penning the script for the film. No director is attached to helm the film as of the present.
'Captain Marvel' is a planned standalone film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) based on the female superheroine of the same name. No official casting announcements have been made as of the present but a large number of Hollywood A-listers have been tagged to play the titular role of Carol Danvers.
